Reception Class Newsletter

After a busy and enjoyable first half term in school we hope you and the children are refreshed and ready for the excitement that the lead up to Christmas brings!

Our stimulus topic this term will be ‘Celebrations’ and a copy of our topic plan is attached so you can see what we will be learning.

As the weather changes, please can you ensure that your child has a coat and boots so that we can continue to enjoy the outside area. We would also like to use the outside area for some of our PE sessions so please could you also ensure that PE kits include trainers/plimsoles, a warm fleece and tracksuit bottoms or leggings, thank you.

Dressing in winter uniform, coats and boots can be a challenge for some children so please could you support your child to independently dress correctly for the weather when you are out and about at home and we will continue to work on this in school.

Our Open Assembly takes place on Friday 8th November at 10am. All of the Reception children will take part so please join us if you can.

Thank you for your offers to help in the classroom. Now all the children are settled, please contact us if you would like to volunteer to hear readers, help with art or bring something special to share. We look forward to welcoming you into school. We will need to make sure all safeguarding procedures are followed in relation to being in school and will discuss this further with those of you who would like to help

In reception many of our learning activities require the purchase of additional materials to make the learning interactive. To be able to continue to provide these resources, we are requesting a voluntary contribution of £5 per child to help cover the costs. Any contributions would be gratefully received and if you could pass these on to the office in a named envelop it would be very helpful.

This term our role play area is a construction workshop. The children will be using a variety of construction materials and toys to build various models. We hope that this area will not only encourage fine motor development required for building, but also language and writing skills as the children will be labelling and describing their models. Towards the end of the term, the role play area will become a magical Christmas Grotto.

The Reception Parents evening will take place on Tuesday 12th November and we look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s progress that evening.

Kind regards

Mrs Sophie Underwood & Mrs Sarah Thomas
