Shiplake CE Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support children, families and staff at school. We ensure that all staff receive appropriate training, guidance and support to undertake the effective safeguarding of children.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed below and in the ‘Important Information’ section of our website. The Governing Body keep these policies under regular review. The Governors also ensure the Headteacher provides termly updates on safeguarding as part of her report to Governors. The Governors appoint a named Governor for Child Protection and Looked After Children.
We take our role in safeguarding very seriously as we believe all children have the right to feel and be safe.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism. All staff renewed their Prevent training in September 2024.

Safeguarding – On-line Safety
The safety of children when they use digital technology such as the internet, e-mail, mobile phones and social networking sites is of paramount importance.
The links below will direct children and parents to resources which can help to make them aware of the risks of this technology and how to keep themselves safe while using them. Online safety is a priority in school and children in each year group learn about this in both the Computing and PHSE curriculum.
