At Shiplake Primary we believe that PE is an essential part of the curriculum and we provide a broad variety of physical activities that allow children to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physical lifestyle that also encourages the children to develop a love for sport.
Throughout the week children will take part in at least 2 hours of PE and the sessions are designed to provide challenge and opportunities to develop fundamental and valuable skills that can be transferred to all curriculum areas.
All pupils are given the opportunity to engage in Inter House physical activity, therefore get to experience playing as part of a team. All children take part in Sports Day, Rounders, Benchball and Cross Country and compete for the house trophy.
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to become Sports Ambassadors and alongside Mrs Smith promote a love and enthusiasm of sport to the younger children. This is a great way for children to develop their leadership and organisational skills and sporting experience.
Pupils from Years 1 to 6 also get the opportunity to participate in inter school tournaments at varying times throughout the academic year. Key Stage 1 go to Tag Rugby tournament held at Henley Hawkes Rugby Club. Key Stage 2 have various tournaments throughout the year – these tournaments organised via the Henley Schools Partnership and other local independent schools.
